Taj Mahal — the mausoleum-mosque, located in Agra, India, on the banks of river Yamuna. Built on the orders of a descendant of Tamerlane — Sultan of the Mughal Empire Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth fourteenth child (and later was buried there himself Shah Jahan).
The Taj Mahal (also “the Taj”) is considered the best example of Mughal style of architecture, which combines elements of Indian, Persian and Arab architectural styles. In 1983 the Taj Mahal was named a world heritage UNESCO: “the jewel of Muslim art in India, one of the recognized masterpieces of heritage, which is admired around the world.”
